Yield and atom economy Flashcards
1
Q
How do you work out percentage yield?
A
percentage yield = (mass of product actually made / maximum theoretical mass of product) x 100
2
Q
Why is it not always possible to obtain 100% yield?
A
Th reaction may not go to completion or some of the product may be lost when it is separated from the reaction mixture
3
Q
What is atom economy?
A
A measure of the amount of starting materials that end up as useful products
4
Q
How do you work out atom economy?
A
Atom economy = (Mr of desired product from equation / sum of all Mr’s of all the reactants from the equation) x 100
