Ramsay-Hunt Syndrome
Reactivation of VZV in the geniculate ganglion (nerve cell bundle of facial nerve); results in facial palsy, VZV erythematous vesicular rash in ear canal/palate/tongue, taste loss in ant 2/3 of tongue, dry mouth and eyes
Treatment for epidural abscess?
Cover skin flora, including MRSA — ceftriaxone/vancomycin
Infection: pt from carribbean presenting w/tonic-clonic seizure and multiple calcified lesions on CT?

Albendazole
Prophylaxis for contacts of pt with bacterial meningitis?
Rifampin — reduces NP colonization of N. meningitis
Etiology of peripheral CN VII palsy in adults?
Thought to be HSV; treat with prednisone in first 48 hours; +/- valacyclovir
Presentation of CMV in neonate?
Hearing loss, spasticity, hyper intensity on periventricular margin
Lyme disease in kids?
Bilateral CN VII palsy
Carbon monoxide exposure: presentation
AMS, headache, nausea, others in house are not feeling well
Vitamin E deficiency: presentation
Spinal and cerebellar signs: ataxic gait, absent ankle reflexes, diminished proprioception at toes and ankles
B6 intoxication
Numbness and tingling in legs, diminished proprioception and vibration to mid-calf, absent DTRs; associated w/isoniazid prophylaxis for TB
Treatment of organophosphate poisoning?
Atropine, pralidoxime
Lead poisoning
Autonomic sx, extensor weakness, microcytic anemia
Phenytoin / carbamazepine excess
Cerebellar sx: horizontal nystagmus, bilateral limb dysmetria, ataxia
Manganese intoxication: appearance on MRI
Hyperintensity in basal ganglia on T1
Arsenic poisoning
Nausea, vomiting, tinnitus; oval patches on neck, hyperpigmented areas in axillae; decreased pp sensation in feet; grayish lines in nailbeds
