Median neuropathy: clinical features
- numbness/tingling in digits 1-4
- sx may awaken pt from sleep
Median neuropathy: PE
- weakness and atrophy of thenar muscles (APB)
- decreased sensation in first 3.5 digits
- Tinel’s and/or Phalen’s sign
Ulnar neuropathy: clinical features
- paresthesias and pain in 5th digit and medial half of 4th
- difficulty spreading fingers
Ulnar neuropathy: PE
weakness and atrophy in FDI, ADM
Radial neuropathy: clinical features
- wrist drop
- sensory loss on dorsal aspect of hand
Radial neuropathy: PE
- weakness (triceps, brachioradialis, supinator, wrist and finger extensors)
- triceps spared by spiral groove compression, affected by axillary compression
- weakness of extensors causes wrist drop
Saturday night palsy = ?
compression of radial nerve at axilla
Femoral neuropathy: clinical features
- leg weakness on attempting to stand or walk
- pain in anterior thigh
Femoral neuropathy: PE
- weakness of quadriceps
- absent or diminished patellar reflex
- Sensory loss over anterior thigh (and medial leg/foot w/saphenous nerve involvement)
- adductors intact (dif from L2-L3 radiculopathy)
Peroneal neuropathy: clinical features
- foot drop
2. minimal sensory complaints
Peroneal neuropathy: PE
- weakness of extensor hallicus longus, tibialis anterior, peroneal muscles
- sensory loss over dorsal part of foot (mild)
C5 radiculopathy: sensation
Pain: lateral shoulder
Sensation loss: deltoid
C5 radiculopathy: Motor
Weakness: deltoid, supraspinatus, biceps
C6 radiculopathy: sensation
Radial side of arm to thumb
C6 radiculopathy: Motor
Biceps, brachioradialis
