Buckingham’s rebellion failed due to the involvment of the Duke of Buckingham. Discuss
1.BUCKINGHAM - Distrust due to his involvment in the upsurption. Overestimated his popularity in Wales. Nobles participated in hope of his ruin.
2. POOR PLANNING - 10 days early and involvment of Buckingham announced. John Howard was touring his lands so learnt of it. Storm = floods
3.RICHARD III - Informed by spies so was well prepared. Built up army in midlands and ready to face threat from Wales.
Government instability was the greatest problem that Richard III faced by Summer of 1485. Discuss.
1.GOV - Lovell, Catesby and Ratcliffe were resented. Promotion of northeners was unpopular. Resorted to forced loans.
2.DYNASTIC - only son Edward died in April 1484 - no heir so noone to root for. In march queen Anne died. Rumours of marriage to his niece.
3. EXTERNAL - Henry Tudor had support of new king of France, Charles VIII. who gave him a fleet to invade. Richards enemies had fled to join Henry eg. John Morton. CA: Minimal - not a problem on own
