Y11 Mock Particles of Matter Flashcards
density of a regular object practical
1, use a mass balance to find weight in grams of object and record
2. use a ruler to measure the length height and width
3. multiply these three values for a volume in cm^3
density of an irregular object practical
- use mass balance to measure weight of the object in grams
- fill a displacement can until the water just starts to leak out of the spout
- put a measuring cylinder under the spout
- place the irregular object in the displacement can
- water will be displaced and come out of the spout into the measuring cylinder
- read and record value in cm3 of displaced water
- use density = mass/vol with the values
how can substances change state
either transferring more energy to them or by transferring heat energy away
how can physical changes be reversed
properties return to original ones
why is mass conserved
number of particles does not change but instead their arrangement
melting
solid to liquid
freezing
liquid to solid
evaporation
liquid to gas
condensation
gas to liquid
sublimation
solid to gas
what is internal energy
energy stored by particles of a substance
what is internal energy the sum of
kinetic energy of the particles by heating and elastic potential energy due to the bonds between particles (by changing the state)
what des the increase of temperature depend on
the increase of temperature depends on the mass of the substance heated , the type of material , and the energy input to the system
what is the motion of gas particles
random and spontaneous
what is temp of gas particles related to
temperature is related to the average kinetic energy pf the molecules
