Y10: rivers Flashcards
What are the 4 types of erosion?
Attrition, Abrasion, Hydraulic action, Solution
Attrition
Rocks smashing together while being carried by the river, resulting in rocks becoming smaller
Abrasion
Rocks wearing down the riverbed and banks while rubbing against them like sandpaper
Hydraulic Action
The force against the bank causes air to trap in the cracks, wearing away the rocks
Solution
Particles being dissolved in the river
Erosion
The break down and removal of sediment
What is a V shaped valley? How are they created?
Valleys that are formed by erosion of rivers, creating very steep sides and resembling the letter ‘v’.
Interlocking spurs
The river eroding at the upper course and goes around the interlocking spurs like a meander
