x-ray tube sheilding/housing Flashcards
what is the function of x-ray tube shielding for electrical protection
x-ray tube housing prevents the live components of the x ray tube from being touched by the operator
the housing is earthed through mountings insulated sockets where high tension cables enter the x-ray tube
the pure mineral oil surrounding the tube instert acts as an electrical insulator by preventing spakrs across the insert and sparks from the insert to the tube housing.
what is the function of an xray ttube in terms of radiation protection
the tube housing is made of either aluminium or steel and is lined with 2mm-3mm of lead. this lead prevents the radiation emerging in all directions and it also prevents radiation leakage
xray photons are only able to leave the xray tube via the tube window
what is the function of x-ray tube housing for thermal protection
the oil also acts as a thermal protector as it acts as a coolig medium.
heat passes through the oil to the xray tube housing by convection. the oil then gets very hot and expands and there is an expansion diaphragm on one end of the xray tube to accomodate this
what is the function of shield housing in terms of physical protection
the housing protects the xray tube from damage via knocks and bumps
