Computed and Digital Radiography Intro Flashcards
describe the image receptors used in conputed radiography
they use a phosphor imaging plate which is sorted into a cassette which come in different sizes depending on the body part being imaged
explain the image aquisition process
when the patient is xrayed the photons pass through the patient amd strike the phosphor layer of the imaging plate and are absorbed until the plate is processed
how is the practitioner able to assign the correct patient
the practitioner will scan the barcode on the imaging plate which corresponds to that patient on the computer system
how are phosphor imaging plates processed
they are processed using a computer readiography plate reader which scans the phosphor layer using a laser beam which causes the stored photon energy in the phosphor layer to be released as visible light which then strike the photomultiplier tube which converts it into an electrical signal
this electrical signal is the coverted into digital signal using ADC
the imaging plate is then erased suing white light
explain the image viewing process
the image is viewed on the CR reader and a 10 point checklist is carried out
how are images stored
the images are stored on a computer on PACS
