interactions of xrays with matter (elastic scattering ) Flashcards
1
Q
what is elastic scattering
A
this occurs in photons with low energirs (10-30kvp)
when incoming photons interact with the electroms of the atoms in the medium, they are deflected from their path as they dont have more energy than the binding energy of the electrons.
this process does not result in any loss or gain of energy
2
Q
why is this interaction rare
A
because low energy photons would have already been filtered out via coherent or additional filtration before reaching the patient
