X-ray Machines Flashcards
What is mA (milliampere)
Measurement of the amount of current that passes through the X-ray tube during exposure
What is kVp (kilovoltage peak)
Maximum voltage applied to an X-ray tube to produce X-rays (runs cathode to anode)
Uses for portable X-ray machine
Large animal extremities or dentals
Characteristics of
Mobile (take to patient) and
Stationary Machine (patient to machine)
Time, mA, and kVp are variable
3 aspects of the Tube
- Controlled beam
- Cathode
- Anode
Controlled beam characteristics
Controls the AMOUNT and PENETRATION of X-RAY PHOTONS
Cathode characteristics
Electron source= Negative charge and repels electrons
Anode characteristics
the TARGET, has a Positive charge and attracts electrons from the Cathode
Two other parts of the x-ray tube
-Glass envelope
-Vacuum tube (prevents air molecule interference)
Increased kVp effects
- energy and penetration increases
- Wavelength decreases
