The US secure Iwo Jima after a month of fighting.
Battle of Midway
A naval battle fought between the US and Japan in the central Pacific that involved Japan planning to occupy the Midway Islands.
The Allies caught wind of this and ambushed the Japanese, winning this battle.
Attack on Pearl Harbor
Japan launched a surprise attack on the US naval bases at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
The the US declared war and entered into war with Japan’s allies.
Lend-Lease Act
The act that enables the US to supply any nation considered vital to US defense with arms
VE Day
Victory in Europe Day, the day of the Allies’ acceptance of Germany’s surrender. (May 1945)
VJ Day
Victory over Japan Day, the day Japan surrendered in WWII, bringing the war to an end. (Aug-Sep 1945)

Two cities in Japan that were the targets of the US’s atomic bombs.
Hiroshima was an important military center.
