What are the main causes of WWII?
-The Treaty of Versallies (ended WWI, made Germany give up France, eastern Poland, Denmark, and Belgium. On top of making them pay reparations)
-Economic Issues/Great Depression
-Rise of totalitarian leaders and aggression towards other countries in Germany, Italy, and Japan. (totalitarian is a form of government where 1 person is in absolute control. happened in response to the economy failing)
-Weakness of League of Nations
(organization made in 1920s under the treaty of versallies after WWI with the goal of maintaining world peace and promoting international cooperation. U.S. didn’t join this)
What book did Hitler write?
Mein Kampf which explained his political views
How did Nazi Germany demonstrate anti-semitism before the Holocaust?
-forcing Jews to leave their homes and move to ghettos
-condoning and participating in Kristallnacht or night of broken glass
-passing the nuremberg laws that took away the Jew’s German citizenship

What happened after Nazi Germany invaded Poland in 1939 (Hitler did this to take back some of the land lost and to increase living areas)
Great Britain and France declared war on Germany on September 3rd 1939.
(poland was being invaded at the time, so great britain and france were loyal)
When the Japanese began to take the land in Asia, how did the U.S. respond?
The U.S. stopped the sale of natural resources to Japan. (oil, gasoline, etc) and this angered Japan.
What was Pearl Harbor and who attacked it?
An American naval base in Hawaii. Japan attacked it on December 7th, 1941. This is when the U.S. joined WWII.
What caused the U.S. to join WWII?
The bombing of Pearl Harbor.
How were Japanese Americans treated after the attack at Pearl Harbor?
Americans became suspicious of them and took their civil liberties away (ex: freedom of speech)
They were forced to move to internment camps or detention centers because they were considered a threat to national security.
What forces did the U.S. join?
The Allied (Great Britain, France, and Soviet Union. The soviet Union consists of countries like Russia, Ukraine, etc)
What are the Axis powers?
Germany, Italy, Japan. Declared the War on U.S for WWII.
What were the major problems for the U.S. in WWII?
Fighting the war on several fronts/paying for supplies to assist soldiers
Who led the U.S. to Europe during WWII?
General Eisenhower led the Allies to Europe. He was the 34th U.S. president
what kind of materials did americans need to ration?
rubber, metal, and food.
what did america do to pay off the war funds?
Bought war bonds (Bonds from the government)

America
Who were Navajo Code Talkers?
Men who used their native language as a secret code to send military messages
Who were Tuskgee Airmen?
African American pilots who shot down more than 200 enemy planes
What was the Manhattan Project?
A top secret plan the U.S made to develop an atomic bomb on Japan to end the war quickly and save Americans
What happened after WWII?
Criminals were convicted in Nuremberg and showed that military leaders and government officials were responsible for their actions
When was the United Nations created and why?
Made after ww2, meant to prevent another world war
