1.Plot

A

-it revolves around two houses on the Yorkshire moors=) WUTHERING HEIGHTS AND THRUSHCROSS GRANGE

-Beginning= Mr Lockwood( new tenant of TG) calls on his Landlord, Mr Heathcliff, at Withering heights –) forced too pend the night cuz of snowstorm

= he dreams about a girl Cathrine

-When he returns to Thrushcross Grange the housekeeper Nelly Dean tells him the whole story

=) The story: Mr Earnshaw was the father of Hindley and Cathrine and they lived at W.H.

-) he came home with a foundling aka Heathcliff =) Hindley was a bitch to him, but Caterine was like “cute” =) palese they fell in love

-) Mr Earnshaw dies and Hindkley became the master he ill-treated Heathcliff

-) One day Cathrine was bitten by a dog near T.G and was forced to spend 5 weeks there=) got to know EDGAR + ISABELLA

-) years later= Hindley’s wife dies and Edgar proposes to Cathrine who obv accepts =) Heathcliff misunderstands palese

-) 3 years later Heathcliff got his revenge act and he is so much better than before = he wins possession of W.H. + eloped with Isabella and treated her like a slave

-) Catherine died giving birth to Cathy=) years later Heathcliff forced her to marry his lazy son Linton=) he becomes owner of T.G.

-) Years later Mr Lockwood comes back and finds out Linton and Heathcliff are both dead

-) Hareton and Cathy get married

  1. What opposing but complementary forces do the two houses represent ?
A

-Wuthering Heights= sever and gloomy=) stands for the principle of storm and energy

-Trhushcross grange = stability= principle of calm and assurance

-With the marriage fo Hareton and Cathy the two forces achieve harmony

  1. The meaning of nature in Withering Heights?
A

The setting ( Yorkshire moors) is sublime

-) it is beautiful and brutal and it mirrors the complexity of the characters

-) it cannot easily bend to man’s desire=) it is symbol of freedom and human nature

A

she has a romantic nature and is a free spirit who struggles between her love for Heathcliff and her social ambitions that she ends up choosing. She haunts the motherfucker cuz she is a baddie

  1. Explain the concept of Dual narrative.
A

It is a form of narrative that incorporates two different perspectives from two distinct individuals at different points in time.

the 2 main narrators are= MR LOCKWOOD (outsider) and NELLY DEAN involved

-no chronological order =) starts at the end and develops a narrative within a narrative + use of flashbacks

A

-Gothic elements to depict the struggle between two opposing forces love and hate and order and chaos

-The spirit of romanticism evident in the relation between the character’s passions and the wild landscape.

-Death it is seen as the liberation of the spirit

  1. Who is Heathcliff?
A

-sort of a byronic hero ( how?) cuz of his passions , but also a Gothic Villain cuz he kinda a bitch ngl.

-he is very vengeful cuz of his life or maybe he is a demon-like being? =) total identification with his love, Cathrine
