It explains how we retain info from multiple senses in working memory rather than just one. It combines info from all 5 senses including auditory and verbal info from the PL and the VSS

It is referred to as a multi modal store as it combines information from multiple senses
What is the job of the episodic buffer ?
It combines multi modal information to create a memory of a whole experience or event.
What else does the episodic buffer combine as well as the 5 senses ?
It combines the timing of the event and how you felt during the event
What happens when information is transferred from the episodic buffer into the long term memory ?
It creates an episodic memory
What is an episodic memory ?
It is a LTM store for personal events. Includes memories of when the events occurred of the people, objects, places and behaviours
What is a semantic memory ?
It is a long term memory store for our knowledge of the world which includes facts and knowledge of words and concepts
What is a procedural memory ?
It is a LTM store for our knowledge of how to do things. learned skills
What is sensory information ?
These are things that the brain collects from your senses which gives you information about the world around you
