Writing a hypothesis Flashcards
Hypothesis
“A precise, testable statement of what the researcher predicts will be the outcome of the study.”
What do you need when writing a hypothesis?
A clearly operationalised IV
A clearly operationalised DV
Identification of the population studied
Variable
“any quantity or qualify that differs (or varies) across a population of people”
One-tailed hypothesis
one manipulated variable is predicted to produce an effect greater than another manipulated variable
Null hypothesis
This states that the IV will have no effect on the DV, or any change in the DV will be due to chance.
Example of a hypothesis
__________________ will recall ______________ from _________________ when ____________________ than when ___________________________.
Example of a null hypothesis
“There will be no significant difference in the _____________________ from ___________________ by ____________________ whether ____________________or ____________________. Any difference will be due to chance.”
