Quantitative Research Flashcards
What do quantitative methods do?
Emphasise objective measurements and the statistical analysis of data
independent variable
the variable that causes a change in the other variable (deliberately manipulated by researcher)
dependent variable
the variable that is measured after the manipulation of the IV
Control over extraneous variables
when the IV is manipulated, all other possible variables stay the same (i.e.procedure must stay the same in both groups)
Operationalisation of IV and DV
the variable is expressed in terms of how it will be measured
Standardised
procedure written in detail so it can replicated by other researchers
True experiment
randomly allocates participants to conditions. Same chance of being assigned to experimental or control condition
