Wrist-Hand Complex Flashcards
What are the 8 carpal bones?
Some Lovers Try Positions That They Can’t Handle
Scaphoid, lunate, triquetrum pisiform, trapezium, trapezoid, capitate, hamate
Flexors of wrist
flexor carpi ulnaris, flexor carpi radialis, palmaris longus
Extensors of wrist
extensor carpi radialis longus, extensor carpi radialis brevis, extersor carpi ulnaris
Wrist flexors all originate ________.
Wrist extensors all originate ________.
Flexors = Medially Extensors = Laterally
What muscles are for radial deviation?
Extensor carpi radialis longus, extensor carpi radialis brevis, flexor carpi radialis. (duh Nichole, all the ones on the radial side)
What muscles are for ulnar deviation?
Extensor carpi ulnaris, flexor carpi ulnaris.
What is a colles fracture?
Fx of distal end of radius
What is wrist drop deformity?
damage to radial nerve, cannot extend wrist and fingers
What is the flexor retinaculum?
forms the roof of the carpal tunnel
What are the extrinsic muscles of the thumb?
Extensor pollicis longus, extensor pollicis brevis, abductor pollicis longus, flexor pollicis longus
(longus= extrinsic! only 1 brevis is extrinsic)
What are the intrinsic muscles of the thumb?
FLexor pollicis brevis, abductor pollicis brevis, adductor pollicis, opponens pollicis
Which muscles are in the thenar eminence?
flexor pollicis brevis, abductor pollicic brevis, opponens pollicis (basically all but one of the intrinsics)
What are the extrinsic muscles of the fingers?
extensor digitorum communis, extensor indicis proprius, extensor digiti minimi, flexor digitorum superficialis, flexor digitorum profundus
What are the intrinsics of the fingers?
dorsal interossei, palmar interossei, lumbricales, flexor digiti minimi, abductor digiti minimi, opponens digiti minimi
Which muscles make up the hypothenar eminence?
The digiti minimi muscles, abductor, flexor, and opponens
What movement is produced by the dorsal interossei?
abduction
What movement is produced by the palmar interossei?
Adduction
Carpal tunnel syndrome is compression of what nerve?
Median
Thumb musculature is innervated by what nerve?
median
What is mallet finger?
tear of extensor tendon at distal phalanx
What is boutonniere deformity?
proximal phalanx extends and middle phalanx flexes due to rupture of extensor tendon at middle phalanx
What is DeQuervain’s?
tenosynovitis of thumb abductors, pain and swelling
What is dupuytren’s contracture?
contracture of palmar fascia causing flexion contracture of finger
The radial nerve supplies what muscle groups?
Extensor-supinators
The median nerve supplies what muscle groups?
flexor-pronator and muscles on radial side of hand
The ulnar nerve supplies what muscle groups?
muscles on ulnar side of wrist and hand, intrinsic muscles of hand and pinky
Damage to the radial nerve could cause lack of sensation in what part of the hand?
dorsal radial surface of the hand
Damage to the median nerve could cause lack of sensation in what part of the hand?
palm and dorsal portion of distal phalanges of first 2 fingers, 1/2 of ring finger
Damage to the ulnar nerve could cause lack of sensation in what part of the hand?
Ulnar side, 1/2 of ring finger and little finger.
