What are some things to palpate?
Palmer fascia, carpal bones, snuff box
Make sure to inspect?
Both palmar and dorsal aspects
Wrist flexion
80-90
Wrist extension

What does carpal tunnel syndrome affect?
Median nerve entrapment
Symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome
Pain and paresthesia along first 3.5 fingers!!
What does Dequervain Tenosynovitis affect?
Inflammation of the tendons of abductor pollicis longus and extensor pollicis brevis in the snuff box
Pain is where with Dequervain Tenosynovitis?
Base of thumb on radial aspect of wrist
Dinner fork fracture that is common in young athletes or elderly women with osteoarthritis from a FOOSH
Colle’s fracture
A fracture that includes tenderness of the snuff box, can also be from a FOOSH
Scaphoid fracture - poor blood supply
Tinel test is testing for?
Carpal tunnel syndrome
Describe the tinel test
Tap over transverse carpal ligament
+) = pain/paresthesia or tingling down median nerve (3.5 fingers
Phalen’s sign is testing for?
Carpal tunnel syndrome
Describe the Phalen’s sign
Have pt place dorsal aspects of hands together and make sure wrists are flexed and then hold for 60 seconds
(+) = pain/paresthesia or tingling down median nerve (first 3.5 fingers)
Finkelstein test is testing for?
DeQuervain’s Tenosynovitis
Describe the set up for the Finkelstein test
Make a first with thumb encompassed and then ulnar deviate
(+) = pain in snuff box area of lateral wrist
Describe wrist isotonic MET
Physician crosses thumbs and places on scaphoid and pisiform and applies a lateral force while the pt flexes wrist and overcomes counterforce
- isokinetic strengthening
Describe Figure 8 wrist articulation
Pt places wrist perpendicularly between physician’s hands and the physician articulates the wrist in a figure 8 pattern until the SD is alleviated
