Dupuytren’s contraction
MC IN Men >40
Has a high hereditary disposition to north European countries
Caused by thickening of the Palmer, fascia of the middle finger
Causing progressive permanent function, do to increase tension of the contractors (bow, string affect)
Associated with diabetes, an alcoholic cirrhosis
De Quervain’s tenosynovitis
More common in female of middle age
Commonly seen in sports and activities that use Ulnar deviation such as fly fishing, squash, badminton and tennis.
causing inflammation of the abductor pollicis longus and extensor pollicis brevis.
aggravated by the. Fiekelsteins test
Ganglion cyst
Most common in females three times
Age 20 to 40
A ganglion cyst is a tumor or swelling on top of a joint or tendon sheath with an unknown cause
Associated with gymnast to do handstands and repetitive trauma and stress to the wrist.
Carpal tunnel syndrome
Most common nerve entrapment
More common in males 40-60yo
50% bilateral
Caused by reduction in the carpal tunnel space due to inflammation, such as OA RA diabetes, obesity, repetitive trauma, resulting in compression of the median nerve under the flexor retinaculum
Causes pain numbness and tingling over median nerve distribution
Scaphoid fracture
Most common in young adults from the age of 15 to 20
Caused by a fallen and outstretched hand
Complications. If the proximal end of the scaphoid is fractured may cause AVN
Colles fracture
More common and osteoerotic, women and pediatric boys
Caused by a fall on an outstretched hand, causing the distal end of the radius to be posteriorly, displaced, known as a dinner, “fork deformity ”
A Smith fracture is an anterior displacement of the radius instead
Trigger finger
More common in women, 40 to 50
Associated with direct trauma due to a repetitive forceful grip
Most common finger is the fourth digit and thumb tendon sheath.
this causes the tendon to catch on the sheath, leaving finger, stuck in flexion and may pop into extension
