machine guns cause gunshot wounds which fractured bones
How did shell explosions cause injury? (3PTS)
-shrapnel from explosions would fly into a exposed head. causing head injuries(brain damage)
-some shell were highly explosive, so they broke into jagged peace’s that could cut through flesh
-explosions released carbon monoxide which caused poising. meaning soldiers received concussions
what is shrapnel?
metal objects from explosions, filled with bullets that hurt soldiers.
what was invented in 1915 to reduce shell explosion injuries?(especially shrapnel!!!!!)

how did wounds get infected in the western front?
- there was lots of bacteria from farmland fertilisers. which spread in waterlogged drainage ditches
-thousand of dead body’s would decompose and cause dirt to be infected
==soldiers wounds would lay in the contaminated mud for hours. meaning they had risk of gaining serous infection, like gangerene. which was fatal. as there was no treatmant for it
how did people fight infections?
- used antiseptics, like carbolic location. which was soaked into bandages. Then wrapped around wounds.
-people had amputations within there arms to stop life threatening disease spreading
