minor wounds treatment
wash hands + gloves, clean, cover with sterile dressing, secure dress and advise to seek medical help
major wounds
anything that cannot be treated by a simple wound dressing- need further medical attention
arterial bleeding
oxygenated and under pressure is bright red and spurts with each heartbeat, hard to control (the worst one) e.g neck, wrist
venous bleeding
de oxygenated not under pressure, dark red, flows steadily, easier to control
capillary bleeding
blood oozes and is bright red, not life threatening
treatment for severe external bleeding
wash hands + gloves, apply in direct pressure point, lay flat and elevate legs, elevate injured part above the heart, secure the dressing
treatment for minor bleeding
wash hands and gloves, apply pressure, elevate injured part, remove jewellery and apply dressing
when the bandage becomes blood soaked
you leave the first one and apply a second layer of bandage if that becomes blood soaked re do everything!
internal bleeding
bleeding under the skin (bruising), show signs of shock
symptoms/signs of internal bleeding
history of injury or medical illness (e.g stomach ulcers) , discoloured bruised skin, pain or tenderness, symptoms of shocks- treat the same as shocks
