frostbite
affects exposed parts of the body furthest from the heart and have the least circulation- do not wear tight clothes, keep out of wind, keep moving and keep your face dry
signs/symptoms frostbite
white creamy patches that are hard to the touch
treatment for frostbite
place the affected area in a warm place, no direct heat, do not burst blisters, do not rub the area
hypothermia
when the core body temperature drops
signs and symptoms of hypothermia
feeling cold, shivering, tiredness and difficulty responding to questions
treatment for hypothermia
move to a warm place and give sweet drink and monitor them
snow bindness
caused by bright light reflecting off the snow
signs and symptoms of snow blindness
temporary blindness and pain in eye
treatment for snow blindness
rest eyes in darkness, use blindfold
heat cramp
heat exhaustion lack of salt in the body often cause by perspiring
signs and symptoms of heat cramps
cramping of muscles (legs arm and abdomen), shallow breathing, dizziness and vomit
treatment for heat cramps
move into shade, add one small level of salt to a pint of water
heat exhaustion
more severe than heat cramp
signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion
pale, cold skin, nausea, dizziness, weak pulse, cramping
treatment for heat exhaustion
same as heat cramps
