airway opening positions for a child and infant
“sniffing” and “neutral”
for a child rescue breaths:
“sniffing positions” pinch the soft part of the nose closed with index finger and thumb of your head on the forehead
for a infant rescue breaths:
“neutral” positions, take a breath cover mouth and nose have a good seal, blow steadily
stimulating-
rub the sole of the foot
sending for help with an infant/child
you must send for help after doing 1 min of cpr
danger
ensure the safety of yourself passengers and bystanders
response
gently shake the shoulders or rub the sole of the foot, do not shake an infant
airway
open the airway by doing the “sniffing” position for a child and the “neutral” position for an infant- do not push the soft tissue on the chin (be very careful with a baby)
breathing
looking for chest movement, listen for breaths and feel for breaths on cheek
-if breathing normally observe the breathing and check circulation, if not breathing and making infrequent noises 5 rescue breaths

in sniffing position pinch the soft part of the nose closed and with the index finger and thumb on forehead
for a infant rescue breaths
in neutral position take a breath and cover the mouth and nose with your mouth (if using a mask place it with the pointing angle downwards) blow and you should see the chest rise
taking pulse radial- arm
conscious over 1 years
taking pulse carotid- neck
unconscious over 1 year
taking pulse brachial
unconscious or conscious under 1 year
cpr for child
depth should be 5cm and using 1 hand and you use 2 fingers to find the centre of the sternum and use 1 hand
