Wound Types Flashcards
Types of Wounds
1) Acute Wounds
2) Ulcers
Acute Wounds (7)
- Abrasion
- Avulsion
- Incisional wounds
- Lacerations
- Penetrating
- Puncture
- Skin tears
Abrasions
Friction and shear forces result in scraping away of skin’s superficial layers
Avulsions
Serious wound resulting from tension that leads to skin becoming detached from underlying structures
Aka Degloving
Incisional Wound
Created intentionally via surgery
Laceration
Irregular tear of tissues from shear, tension, or high force compression associated with trauma
Penetrating wound
Wound that enters the interior of an organ or cavity
Puncture Wound
Done by a sharp, pointed object as it penetrates the skin and underlying tissues. Typically little tissue damage but significant risk for contamination/infection
Skin Tear
Results from trauma to fragile skin by bumping into an object, adhesive removal, shear, or friction forces.
Can range from flap-like tear, to full-thickness tissue loss
