Non-selective Debridement Flashcards
Types of Non-selective Debridement (3)
1) wet-to-dry dressings
2) wound irrigation
3) hydrotherapy
Characteristics of Non-selective debridement
Removes both viable and nonviable tissue
Aka “mechanical debridement”
Wet-to-dry dressings
Most often used on wounds with moderate exudate and necrotic tissue
Removes viable and non-viable tissue
Wound Irrigation
Pulsatile lavage uses pressurized irrigation solution and suction for exudate/debris removal
Most desirable for wounds that are infected or have loose debris**
Hydrotherapy
Done in a whirlpool for wounds requiring debridement
Possible negative side effects of Hydrotherapy (3)
1) Maceration of viable tissues
2) Edema from dependent positioning
3) Systemic effects i.e. hypotension
