Wound Management Flashcards

Q

What two particular properties are attributed to vacuum-assisted wound closure?

A
  • Removal of fluid: reducing interstitial pressure, allowing vascular beds to expand, grow (vascular endothelial growth factor) and perfuse tissue. Allows endothelial membrane regeneration.
  • Viscoelastic flow (Mechanical deformation): promotes the production of Fibroblast Growth Factor-2 (distraction histogenesis), which promotes increased mitotic rate.
