Theriogenology Flashcards
What is the reported neonatal mortality rate following cesarian section? Is there an increased breed-related risk? According to Adams DJ et al. (VetSurg 2022), what is the most important factor to influence neonatal survival?
Neonatal mortality rate following cesarean section in dogs is 2% to 8%, with some studies reporting brachycephalic breeds are at higher risk. This paper did NOT reveal an association between brachicephaly and neonatal mortality. The most important factor was the need for emergency C-section vs. elective C-section.
