Wound healing Flashcards
What are the steps of wound healing?
- Hemostasis
- Inflammation
- Proliferating phase
- Maturation
how long does it take for hemostasis to occur
seconds to hours
How long does it take for Inflammation to occur?
Hours to days
How long does it take for the proliferative phase to occur
days to weeks
How long does it take for maturation to occur?
months to years
what is hemostasis?
A process where blood vessels constrict and platelets aggregate to promote blood clotting and stop bleeding
what happens during inflammation (short summary)
- Neutrophils eat debris/ pathogen
- macrophages eat neutrophils with dead debris in them
what happens during the Proliferative phase
- granulation tissue is formed
- angiogenesis
- fibroblasts make new collagen
- epithelization
- Myofibroblasts contract wound together
what do fibroblasts do?
they make collagen (need copper to do this)
what is angiogenesis
formation of new blood vessels
what is epithelization
the replication and migration of epithelial cells to the edges of a wound in response to a growth factor
what is happening during maturation phase?
Collagen 3 is replaced by collagen 1by using metalloproteases (need zinc)
what is a metalloprotease?
any catalytic enzyme that uses a metal
