Wound care Flashcards
What kind of wound is hydrogel dressing recommended for?
Noninfected stage 3 ulcers with minimal exudate (SOE=B). The hydrogel provides a soothing contact to the wound bed, maintains a moist wound environment, and provides some autolytic debridement for the minimal nonviable tissue seen.
What kind of wound is alginate dressing recommended for?
are intended for wounds that have moderate to heavy exudates (SOE=B). Blood and exudates are absorbed to create a gel that protects wound surfaces. Because the wound in this case has minimal exudates, alginate dressings are not the best treatment option and will potentially dry out the wound.
What kind of wound is hydrocolloid dressing recommended for?
for partial-thickness pressure injuries, such as a stage 2 pressure injury (SOE=B). Applying a hydrocolloid dressing to a wound with 1-cm depth will not fill the dead space required to encourage granulation tissue and wound healing.
what kind of wound is a transparent film dressing used for?
For wounds without exudates or suspected infection. It can provide autolytic debridement, or it can cover other dressings for larger wounds as a secondary dressing
What is the risk of using mid to high potency steroids in intertriginous sites?
cause atrophy–> can lead to ulcers
DO NOT want to use on face either
Is pre albumin and albumin a good test for nutrient uptake?
Prealbumin has a shorter half-life and is considered more responsive to nutrient intake than albumin. However, recent studies suggest it is not an adequate substitute for calorie counts in assessing the nutrient intake in older adults recovering from an acute illness (Lack sensitivity and specificity)
what score is used to monitor pressure ulcer healing?
Bates-Jensen Wound Assessment Tool
Treatment for venous leg ulcers
Unna boot is a specialized compression dressing that is usually applied weekly and
