Psych Flashcards
What is Somatization disorder?
is also strongly associated with psychologic factors and physical symptoms that are excessive relative to medical findings. It has an early onset (before age 30) and chronic history, and it involves multiple organ systems (four sites of pain, two gastrointestinal symptoms, and one sexual and one pseudoneurologic symptom other than pain).
how is somatic symptom disorder characterized?
is characterized by ≥1 physical complaints, typically lasting 6 months, that are associated with significant distress or impairment in functioning. It is among the most common somatoform disorders in late life (SOE=A). Symptoms and impairment are not explained by or exceed what would be expected based on medical findings. Psychologic factors are presumed to play a strong role in the onset and persistence of the physical symptoms.
