Woulds of wall street Flashcards
What was the Wooly mammoth
what are the attempts to resurrect
Lived from Pleistocene (2.6 million years ago) until Holocene Epoch (11.7 k years ago)
Soft tissue and DNA are possibly used to resurrect the species. DNA is used to artificially inseminate elephants and create a new hybrid
What was the Pyrenian Ibex
what are the attempts to resurrect
Capra Pyrenaica Pyrenaica or Buearda.
Last species was called Celia.
Biopsies have been taken but main problem with the attempts to resurrect is only female species exist.
Passenger pigeon
Died mainly due to hunting and habitat decline over the years
Although 1.5 thousand skins of the pigeons still remain alongside 16 skeletons
Efforts are being made to transfer the DNA to similar birds
MOA
Order Dinonithiformes
Native to New Zealand
Went extinct before the 12th century
Scientist Aukoh Yasyuki Shirata extracted dna and works to resseruct
Dodo
Raphus Cuculatus
Went extinct due to the bird endemic to mauritius
Flightless bird
Attempts to genome edit the Nicobar pigeon into the DODo for resurrection
7 animals people are trying to bring back
What are the major projects for them too
1) Rau Quaggas
by selective breeding plains zebras into quaggas
2) Aurochs- by the Taurus project with selective breeding or genome editing
3) Pyrenean Ibex - mentioned in other cards, only female DNA exists so the possibillity is low
4)Wooly mammoth - through artificial insemination and claming
5) Bain tailed pigeon - by breeding a hybrid
6) neanderthals- possess ts humans, makeup 2-3 percent of human dna.
7) thylacine - mentioned in next set of cards
Thylacine
Tasmanian Tiger -
Roamed mainly in Australia and some in Europe
Anderson J park has the full dna of the tiger
Last species died due to the cover-up and neglect of the government where the notice signs for the tiger was only put up due to poilitical purposes.
Dodo Colossal Biosciences project
Ceo Ben Lamm created the company to bring back the dodo
Goal to bring Dodo back to its natural habitat
Key figure Matt James
People from mauritius putting in efforts to recreate habitat
Mastodon
Mastos(Beast) + odous(teeth)
Member of the mammoths family.
From late Miocene to early Holocene
Same order as elaphants and mammoths
Carolian Parkeet
Extinct species of parrots
small green neotropical with bright yellow, red, orange face
native to the US
hunted due to their claws
last species named Incas in Connecticut zoo
Apple restructuring
Recently, Apple Inc. has taken a huge step in improving its business. It has, after long discussions, finally decided to majorly restructure its workforce. This has been done to many reasons, most prominently the increasing costs and lowering profits the company has seen.
This restructuring aimed to cut down on wasteful resource management, and shutting down huge divisions that weren’t needed. It also laid off over 1,600 people. This was led by president and chief executive John Sculley.
The restructuring has eliminated the Apple II and Macintosh Divisions, replacing them with an operating division and sales and marketing division.
Apple was expecting 2.2-2.5 billion USD revenue in this fiscal year, which would have been a huge improvement from last year’s 1.5, however this has now decreased to 1.9 billion USD, serving as a huge problem for Apple.
Apple grew from 7 billion USD revenue and 8,000 employees in 1997, the year Steve Jobs joined, to 137,000 employees and 260 billion USD in 2019.
Alphabet

Air India rebranding
In October 2021, Air India was rebought by Tata from the government in an attempt to revitalize the debt ridden airline. Air India was initially started by Tata in 1932 before it was taken over by the government in 1953. The company was bought for 2.4 billion USD, and officially handed to the Tatas in January 2022.
Tata, now in charge of Air India, has put in countless efforts to rebrand the airline and improve on its bleak past. There were many steps taken towards this goal, with the first being changing the logo. As well as that, the company bought 470 aircrafts Airbus and Boeing, trying to improve the airlines fleet.
