What did alliances have to do with WWI?
Alliances developed between the great powers during the late 19th century and were how so many different nations got involved in the conflict.
How did imperialism impact WWI?
Powerful EU nations competed for colonies in Asia and Africa. This competition led to conflict.
What was the role of imperialism during WWI?
Nations with colonies could extract more natural resources to better their munitions as well as recruit soldiers if their deposit was running low.

Having great pride for one’s nation. This also gives the justification for the other parts of MAIN

The serbian nationalist organization that was dedicated to removing the Austro-Hungarian rule over Serbia and other balkan nations.

How did the concept of a stalemate influence WWI?
The fronts of the war with trenches reached stalemate because of the fact that no one could move forward (into “no-man’s-land”) without dying. This means that the front cannot move forward.
What was the Schlieffen plan?
Germany’s plan to quickly knock out France (by going through Belgium) and then knock out Russia immediately after France
How was unrestricted submarine warfare important in WWI?
Germany declared that any boat going through or near British waters would be eliminated by their u-boat forces. This eventually led to the entry of the US into WWI
How was Total Warfare used during WWI?
The governments tried to take complete control of the economy, politics, and culture in order to wage war and dedicate a country’s resources to the war.
How was propaganda relevant to WWI?
Propaganda was used as a cultural tool to boost moral and demoralize the enemy to create nationalism and a better fighting force.
What was the Russian Revolution?
During 1917, the Czarist government in Russia was overthrown and later in the year, communism took over the provisional government

Vladimir Lenin’s group of communists

They, under the lead of Lenin, took over the provisional government of Russia during the October revolution

A formal agreement to peace
How were armistices important to WWI?
Germany and France signed an armistice leading to the conclusion of WWI
What was the Treaty of Versailles?
A peace agreement where the terms and reparations of the war were determined (it negatively impacted the Germans substantially)

The German leader during WWI. He advocated for the ending of the war.
How was President Woodrow Wilson important?
He was the US president during WWI who proposed 14 points to ensure international peace

He was the “leader” of Prussia during the Franco-Prussian war. Led to the German occupation of the territory during WWI

The heir to the Austrian throne. His assassination led to the outbreak of war

The leader of the Bolshevik party during the Russian Revolution. He was exiled and returned once Czar Nicolas II and his family were removed from the government.

The leader of Russia during the most of WWI. He was forced to step down from his position during the February revolution. He was also executed with his entire family.
