capitalism. Economics.
What are the three defining features of WST?
A single global economy, A multitude of different political entities and ethinic groups. A core periphery dynamic.
Why is the nation no longer a suitable starting point for analysing society?
Many social interactions now take place outwit the nation. We understand countries through there relationship with the rest of the world.
Explain the core-perihpery model.
Core nations exploit the perihepral and semi peripheral. Semi peripheral exploit the peripheral but normally in ways that suit the core. Periphery is made reliant on the others normally for aid etc.
Why is there not a world government?
It would not suit the capitalist. They need variety and competition so they can play nations off against each other and befriend nations with similar interest.
What did Bauman study
The human consequences of globalisation. Mass migration is the defining feature of globalisation. Worlds poor service the worlds rich.
Critics?
It ignores any cultural influences. And blurs the important internal conflicts of any given nation. Core can exploit other core.
