World Polity Theory Flashcards
How does WPT differ from WST?
It sees globalisation as a cultural process.
Why does cultural isomorphism take place?
Nations irrespective of wealth will often be faced with the same constraints when structuring institutions. Nations will attempt to replicate the most successful ones in areas like education or healthcare. This creates a global convergence around cultural factors.
What does WPT show signs of?
Global reflexivity.
Who are the social actors?
Global elites.
Common culture leads to?
common behaviour.
Whats the problem with WPT?
Needs of local people can be ignored in the face of global demands. This is the case in Brazil’s olympic and world cup project. Too outward looking.
