Workshop Processes Flashcards
What is the drill?
Enlarges circular holes in solid material
CUTTING PROCESS
what is marking out?
O4P pen used to mark with. Semi- permanent + can be rubbed off whilst not damaging plastic.
What is try square?
Marks perpendicular (90 degrees)
What is the steel ruler?
Used for measuring distance
What is line bending?
Used to shape thermoplastic. After heated on line bender work placed on to a former. Once cooled, acrylic stays bent.
What is the polisher?
Material is pressed against bottom of polish wheel, this makes thin polish coat onto edge. Thin coat removed by other wheel + shine is produced
What is the sander/ bandfacer?
Smooths materials e,g woods + plastics. Removes waste material. Danger if safety is ignored.
Material is pushed against rotating band + moves left to right
what is filing and what types of filing is there?
Back and forth motion using a file
Cross filing <ā>
Draw filing (at an angle) (using glasspaper)
You can have a rough file cut and second cut (smooth)
What are the 3 basic building blocks of mechanical control?
Input, process, output
What is the input ?
Force that starts process.
e,g foot on a pedal
What is the process ?
Change magnitude / direction of force
E,g mechanisms allow petrol into engine
What is the output?
What performs desired task.
E.g car moves
Give a summary of mechanical controls
A mechanism
Input, process, output
Change direction in which force acts
Change size of force
Change place where force acrs
