MSDS/SDS
(Material) Safety Data Sheet; Lists the hazards and protocols for a specific material or piece of equipment
Time-Weighted Average
Average exposure to a hazard over a period of time (normally measured for an hour, day, or work week); here gas average over 8 hour work day
Permissible Exposure Limit
The highest level of exposure allowed without adverse health effects
Short Term Exposure Limit
The concentration of a hazard that workers can be exposed to continuously for a short time without adverse effects (15 minutes 4 times per day)
Action Level
Level of a substance or material which is potentially dangerous and needs monitoring
Formaldehyde Rule
exposure limit for formaldehyde (0.75 ppm)
Bloodborne Pathogen Rule
Regulation limiting exposure to bloodborne pathogens for workers; Employees must be aware of pathogens
Primary Disinfection
The initial application of chemicals to kill microorganisms
Concurrent Disinfection
Disinfection occurring during procedures; maintains disinfectant to prevent resurgence and applies disinfectants to new areas
Terminal Disinfection
The final cleaning of all surfaces including equipment, tables, floors, etc.
Universal Precautions
Assume everyone is infectious and take appropriate precautions
