Responsibilites

A

Responsibilities of EMPLOYERS:
1. Provide a safe place of work for employees
1. Ensure that entrances/exits are clearly marked
1. Provide checks on all equipment/machinery so it is safe to use
1. Provide Health & Safety training for employees

Responsibilities of Employees:
1. Immediately report any faults with machinery or equipment
1. Wear protective clothing that is given to them
1. Attend training courses provided by employers
1. Ensure they are familiar with the Health & Safety policy

Employee Responsibilities:
1. Making use of adjustment facilities
1. Taking regular breaks away from the screen
1. Take necessary requirements to ensure health

Employer Responsibilities:
1. Provide adjustable seating and screens
1. Assess workstations regularly
1. Schedule work to allow time for employees to take breaks away from the screen

Fire Precautions Regulations 1995

A

Employee Responsibilities:
1. Cooperate with employer on all fire safety legislation
1. Attend fire safety training and updates
1. Take care of their own safety in terms of fire safety e.g. no smoking inside

Employer Responsibilities:
1. Assess the fire risks
1. Provide warning systems i.e. fire alarm
1. Provide necessary equipment such as fire extinguishers and maintain these

Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981

A

Employers responsibilities:
1. Provide well stocked and adequate first aid box
2. Provide first aid training
3. All staff should have immediate attention if injured.
3. Asses workplace to see if first Aid box is required
4. Communicate first aid procedures to all staff
5. Record all incidents in a report book.

3 Illegal Things

Computer Misuse Act 1990

A

It makes the following illegal:
1. Unauthorised access to computer material or computer systems [hacking]
1. Unauthorised access with the intent to commit or help further offences e.g. introducing a virus
1. Accessing computers to change or alter details in the system without permission (copying details or software)

General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) 1998

A
  1. Data must be obtained only for a specified purpose, and not be further processed.
  2. Data must be accurate and, where necessary, kept up to date.
  3. Data must not be processed for any other purpose than for which it is intended, nor be kept for longer than is necessary.
  4. Data must be protected by proper security methods.
  5. Individuals must be able to access the data held about themselves.

How do Organisations protect their data ?

A
  1. Passwords should be updated regularly
  2. Staff should lock their screen when not at their desk
  3. Information should not be shared with people who do not have the right to access it
  4. Anti-virus software should be installed on all computers
  5. Making use of lockable filing cabinets to protect paper information
  6. Ensure buildings are locked and alarmed to reduce threat of theft

Consequences of a Data Breach

A

To the Employer
1. May be reported by the media and result in negative publicity
1. Reported to the Information Commissioner (upholds information rights) – could result in legal action/fines/compensation
1. Existing customers may change to a competitor and it may be difficult to attract new customers
1. May be closed down

To the Employee
1. A verbal warning then a written warning (both warnings will be recorded on the employee’s record)
1. Suspended this could be with or without pay for a definite period of time
1. Loss of Job
1. A fine and/or criminal or civil prosecution
