How are official unemployment statistics published?
A
Through the claimant count which defines those who are unemployed as those who are available and are actively seeking work and those who are in receipt of Job seekers. There is also the ILO count which is the internationally agreed definition of unemployment. They are those without a job who have been seeking work in the last 4 weeks and etc.

In 2018, how many unemployed were there according to the claimant count and the ILO count?
A
There were 901,000 unemployed in the UK according to the claimant but 1,346,700 according to the ILO.
