In what circumstances must working by Pilotman be introduced?
- trains have to work to and from the point of an obstruction
- the signal controlling the entrance to a Single/ Bi- Di line cannot be cleared (or MA received) by a train for any of the following:
- signal/ signalling equipment has failed/ disconnected
- a track circuit has failed
If signal/ signalling equipment has failed or has been disconnected- when is working by pilotman not needed?
If all track circuits relating to the affected portion of the single line are clear.
If a track circuit/ signalling equipment has failed- when is working by pilotman not needed?
- on Bi-Di lines if trains are allowed to travel on one direction only
- if authorised in the Section appendix
What other exception where working by pilotman is not needed?
Modified Working- if modified arrangements are authorised
What must you do, before entering a single line section?
- properly identify pilotman (Red armband, White letters- PILOTMAN- left arm)
- clearly understand all instructions the pilotman has given to you
- you have the personal authority of the pilotman to enter the single line section
- the pilotman has given you the RT3156
When are you not required to carry an RT3156 ticket?
- Assist a failed train
- Evacuate passengers from a failed train
- Remove a divided portion of a train
- Remove a train that has enter a section without authority
What is the speed attached when working of a single/ Bi- directional lines by pilotman?
You may travel at the permissible line speed except when the drivers ticket states otherwise
What are a driver’s actions when you reach the other end of a single line section?
- cancel the drivers ticket by writing “CANCELLED” across it and hand it back to the Pilotman
- if the Pilotman is not with you, you do not have to stop (unless you have been instructed to do so). Cancel the ticket at the first opportunity and hand it in as shown in your company instructions
- if you have been instructed to stop, you must tell the signaller that your train has arrived, complete with tail lamps
What will be provided on approach to an obstruction so trains can stop?
- a signal kept at danger
- an EoA at which the signaller has closed the route
