When must you report ‘flood water’ to the signaller?

A

If the flood water:

  • is up to the bottom of the rail head
  • is up to the top of the rail head
  • is above the top of the rail head
  • is moving and likely to dislodge the ballast
  • has dislodged the ballast

What are the speeds/conditions attached to flood water?

A
  • Up to the bottom of the railhead —> Normal Working
  • up to the top of the railhead —> 5mph Max
  • above the top of the rail head —> movements only permitted by instructions from operations control
  • at any depth if flood water has dislodged the ballast —> stop the train and await instructions from operations control

What is the reporting procedure for snow?

A

If you see any build up of snow that might affect the passage of trains you must report to the signaller, (stopping specially to do so if necessary)

  • you must tell the signaller if snow is deeper than 8inches above the rail head
    (8 inches of snow - normal running of trains will be suspended, awaiting further instructions from operations control)
