working memory model Flashcards
1
Q
components and psychologists of the 1974 model
A
- baddeley and hitch, 1974
- central executive
- phonological loop
- visuospatial sketchpad
2
Q
central executive roles
A
- control what information is attended to
- integrates info from the PL and VSS
- controls info retrieved from LTM
- responsible for coordinating the slave systems as well as decision making
3
Q
phonological loop roles
A
- temporarily stores and processes auditory information
- has a phonological store which is linked to speech perception- acts as an inner ear and holds information in a speech-based form (i.e., spoken words)
- articulatory control process (linked to speech production) acts like an inner voice rehearsing information from the phonological store
4
Q
visuospatial sketchpad
A
- stores and manipulates visual and spatial information
- used when visualising something, as well as when retrieving visual + spatial info from LTM
5
Q
components of the 2000s working memory model
A
central executive, episodic buffer, phonological loop, visuospatial sketchpad
6
Q
episodic buffer
A
- a component of the WMM that temporarily store consolidated info from the PL, VSS and CE
- limited capacity and accessible by the conscious
- acts as a “backup” store which communicates with both long-term memory and the components of working memory
