Q

What is the central executive?

A

-Supervisory component, overall control of working memory, limited capacity, doesn’t store info.
-Processes/monitors info coming from different stores
-Decides what to put attention to

Q

Slave system 1?

A

Your inner voice
-consists of phonological store:holds auditory info
Articulatory loop- repeating words in your head to remember
-allows maintenance rehearsal and capacity is 2 seconds worth of what you can say.

Q

What is the word length effect?

A

-When the capacity of the phonological loop is determined by the length of time it takes to say the words.
-more than one syllable, harder to remember.

Q

Slave system 2?

A

Visuospatial sketchpad (VSP) ‘the inner eye’
-holds visual and spacial info
-stores info for when it is required
2 sub systems:
Visual cache- stores visual data
Inner scribe- records arrangement of objects in the visual field

Q

Inner scribe?

A

Records arrangements of objects in the visual field
-allows rehearsal of visual/spatial info to maintain it in the visual cache:stores visual data
-limited capacity of 3-4 objects
-Temporarily stores visual and/or spatial info

Q

What is Dual task performance?

A

Baddeley and hitch
They stated that people can perform two tasks at the same time as long as the tasks use different components on the working memory system

Q

What is episodic buffer?

A

Baddeley in 2000
He said in order to start a memory you have to process info from all components and intergrate them all together
-links to working memory
