Working Memory Model Flashcards

1
Q

Strength: RTS Shallice and Warrington patient KF

A

Patient KF suffered with amnesia, recall in stm for digits when they were read aloud was poor, much better when he could see them, supports wmm as suggests must be different stores within stm, one to process visual information one to process auditory information, pl damaged but vss still intact

Q

Weakness: RTS has low population validity

A

Case study is flawed due to low population validity, case study of one person who has an unusual illness, difficult to generalise findings as their stm may operate differently, limits support of the research

Q

Strength: dual task performance

A

Supports the notion that there are separate components in STM and they have limited capacity, BADDELEY ET AL, ppts had more difficulty performing two visual tasks at the same time (pointer to track light and imagining the letter F) than when performing one visual task alone or with a verbal task, suggests both tasks are competing for limited capacity, different tasks simultaneously they are delegated to seperate slave systems, no competition for capacity, increases credibility of WMM
