much of the research may be affected by DC, research conducted in controlled environment, unrealistic task such as watching a video, ppts wanted to be helpful and not let researcher down, ppts pick up clues from the task and experimenter and change their response to fit aims of research, changing response to match that of co witness, lowers internal validity
