Work Energy Theorem Flashcards
Work done:
The product of displacement and the component of the force parallel to the displacement
Gravitational potential energy
The energy an object possesses due to its position relative to a reference point .
Kinetic energy
The energy an object possesses due to its motion
Mechanical energy
The sum of an objects gravitational potential energy and its kinetic energy
Law of conservation of energy
States that the total energy in a system cannot be created nor destroyed, only transferred from one form to another.
Principal of conservation of mechanical energy
States that in the absence of air resistance or any external force, the mechanical energy of an object is constant
Work- energy theorem
States that work done on an object by a net force is equal to the change in kinetic energy of an object
Power:
The rate at which work is done
Or
The rate at which energy is transferred
Watt
Is the power when one joule of work is done per second
Efficiency
The ratio of output power to input power
