Momentum Flashcards
Momentum of an object:
Is the product of the mass and velocity
Collision:
An isolated event in which 2 or more moving bodies exert forces on each other over a relatively short time
Newtons 2nd law ( in terms of momentum):
Net force acting on an object is equal to the rate of change of momentum.
System:
a group of two or more objects that interact.
Internal forces:
The action reaction forces exerted by objects on each other during a collision
Isolated system:
When the mass of a system is constant and no net force external force acts on the system, the system is said to be isolated
Inelastic collision:
A collision where kinetic energy is not conserved only momentum is conserved.
Impulse:
The product of the net force acting on an object and the time which it acts
