words I can't remember Flashcards
caseous
cheeselike;
as in TB, WEGENER, FUNGI
suppurative
something that forms or discharges pus
pannus
proliferative response of the synovial lining (in RA);
depends on cytokines and TNF
constitutional symptoms
fever, fatigue, and malaise
malaise
a vague feeling of discomfort that cannot be pinned down;
you “just don’t feel right”
erythema multiforme
uncommon, associated with infections or drugs;
“target lesion” with central necrosis and perivenular inflammation
erythema nodosum
“panniculitis”;
inflammation of subQ on the anterior leg (shins);
associated with infection and drugs
erythema induratum
aka “nodular vasculitis”;
nodules on the posterior leg (calf);
associated with TB;
NECROSIS and INFLAMMATION within subQ fat
atopy: “some dogs are prone to atopy.”
a tendency to be HYPERALLERGIC;
a person with atopy usually has lots of IgE;

seen in RA around fibrinoid necrosis
granuloma
a nodular inflammatory lesion; often small and persistant often contains modified phagocytes =>epitheliod cells, =>giant cells, =>other macrophages
leukoclastic lesion
fragmentation of neutrophils within vessel walls
extrinsic antigen
antigen that comes from outside
=> drugs
=> dust
petechiae
TINY, LITTLE hemorrhagic spots the size of a pinhead
DO NOT BLANCHE
ecchymosis

=> a bruise
purpura
what you see after a hemorrhage into the skin;
more non-specific term for petechiae/ecchymosis?
pathognomonic
something that is characteristic or indicative of a disease;
ex: urate crystals in a joint are pathognomonic for gout
