What was the condition of women?
They didn’t have access to job training or proper education. They had arranged marriages early and had to care for their families. Their wages were lower than the wages of men.
What did they do to discuss and voice their interests?
They started their own political clubs and newspapers. Around 60 women’s club sprang up, the most popular being the Society of Revolutionary and Republican Women. One of their demands was that women enjoy the same political rights as men. They demanded the right to vote, be elected to the assembly and to hold political office.
What did the revolutionary govt do to improve women’s lives?
They made schooling compulsory for girls, they couldn’t be forced into marriage, divorce was made legal, women could now train for jobs and run small businesses.
