what made Wolsey different compared to other chancellors
A
- he was a commoner and not tied to nobility
- this later proved to be one of the reasons as to why the nobles disliked him towards the end of his rise.

- was granted papal legate
This meant he had powers similar to the Pope and was used when in countries such as England - this was granted for life in 1524 and meant he became powerful and was able to pass the rules and power of the Church under papal legate
