WMM Evaluation Flashcards
What did Eslinger and Damasio investigate?
An patient that had had a tumour removed could still do tasks that required reasoning but not tasks that required decision making
What did Eslinger and Damasio conclude from their experiment?
There is more than one component to the central executive or he would not be able to do any of these tasks
Why is the working memory model not complete?
There is no stores for information that requires touch or smell
Why is the working memory model not clear?
We do not know how the components interact with each other as the model does not explain how the information is transferred
What are the three strengths of the working memory model?
The case study of KF, the research of Baddeley and Hitch and the PET scans
How does KF support the working memory model?
His memory was affected for acoustic items but not for visual therefore it demonstrates that STM has different stores
How does the research that Baddely and Hitch did support the working memory model?
They found that it is easier to do tasks that are dissimilar than tasks that are similar therefore showing that each store is limited as doing tasks that involve the same component causes difficulty
How does the PET scan support the working memory model?
The image gained during the scan shows different parts of the brain working during different tasks therefore showing that they are separate stores
What are the three limitations of the working memory model?
The central executive as a single store is incorrect, it is not clear how the stores interact and it is not clear what happens to information coded by touch or smell
